Lactulose (Enulose) Solution
 
For the treatment of constipation. Lactulose (Enulose) solution increases the number of bowel movements. Lactulose (Enulose) is a synthetic disaccharide in solution form for oral administration. Lactulose (Enulose) is a colonic acidifier which promotes laxation. Allow 24 - 48 hours for results.

Active ingredient(s):
Lactulose (Enulose) solution contains lactulose 667 mg/mL (10 g/15 mL ). May also contain artificial coloring.
 
Caution(s):
This medication does not have an FDA approved indication for use in animals,  but it is a  common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Lactulose (Enulose) may alter insulin requirements so should be carefully used in diabetic patients. Lactulose (Enulose) should be cautiously used in patients with preexisting fluid and electrolyte imbalances. The following drugs can potentially interact with Lactulose (Enulose): Antacids, other laxatives (loose stools), oral antibiotics. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
 
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.  
 
Side effects:
Side effects may include loss of flatulence, bloated stomach and cramping. If your pet experiences diarrhea and dehydration, contact your veterinarian immediately as these may be signs of over dosage and your pet may need a lower dosage. Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
 
Storage:
Store at controlled room temperature, 68-77 degrees F.  Do not freeze.  Product may darken slightly, but therapeutic action is not affected.  Do not use if extreme darkening or turbidity occurs.  See accompanying product information.  Keep tightly closed.
